Our Story: Bravo! Reading Knows Every Child Can Read Like A Shark
Welcome to Bravo! Reading: we’re happy you dropped by to hear our story and how we can help your child overcome reading challenges.
Bravo! Reading believes every child deserves the chance to unlock the joy of reading. Our mission is to help kids with dyslexia overcome reading problems through innovative, movement-based reading programs. We’re delighted you stopped by to learn about us!
At Bravo! Reading, we understand that traditional methods don’t always work for every learner, so we’ve created a unique approach that combines physical activity with reading instruction, making learning engaging and effective.
Kids with dyslexia thrive at reading and other subjects when they’re taught to learn in a way that works for them. They don’t do well with traditional learning tools because they are given the wrong “tools” for success.
Bravo! Knows…Kids With Dyslexia Learn Differently
Children with dyslexia learn differently than other children. That certainly isn’t a crime, but these kids often feel like criminals in traditional learning settings. Is it no wonder that 48% of the Americal prison population is dyslexic?
At Bravo! Reading, we recognize that it’s not about us – it’s about your child! On top of it, dyslexia can make reading a daunting task for many children. That’s why our story is different!
It all started with our founders’ son, Nathan. Struggling with dyslexia and auditory processing issues, Lisa Harp didn’t know how to help him. And she was a certified teacher with oodles of experience.
She learned one thing right from the start. He didn’t learn well with traditional approach. She went on a “mother mission” to help him. Within a year, he was an honor student!
From there, Lisa went on to open learning centers in Northern California where she has helped tens of thousands of children reach academic and reading success.
In 2022, Lisa made her dyslexia reading programs available to all. These dyslexia programs are designed to address the specific needs of dyslexic learners.
By integrating movement into reading and learning programs, the Bravo! dyslexia programs, such as the Bravo! Reading Program or the Bravo! Beginner, stimulate multiple areas of the brain. This, in turn, enhances cognitive functions and makes it easier for children to grasp and retain reading skills. Our approach not only improves reading abilities but also boosts confidence and fosters a love for learning and reading.
Our team of dedicated educators and specialists is passionate about helping children succeed. With years of experience and a deep understanding of dyslexia, Bravo! Reading, is committed to making a positive impact on the lives of children with dyslexia, empowering them to achieve their full potential and discover the magic of reading.
Bravo! Reading also offers numerous free dyslexia resources such as the Bravo! Snap Pack or the Bravo! Free Dyslexia Test.
Our Story: Meet Lisa, The Founder of Bravo! Reading
Bravo! Reading was founded by Lisa Harp, a Dyslexia Expert. Lisa began teaching in 1983, often pondering why some children learned easily and others just didn’t seem to catch on. This thought plagued her, especially when noticing that all the children were bright, verbal, and resourceful.
Still, some children learned to read and write quickly, almost effortlessly. They were like little sponges soaking it all up. Other children struggled to sound out words or put letters and words on paper. What stood in these children’s’ paths to stop learning progress?
When Lisa’s son cropped up with dyslexia and significant auditory processing issues in the early 1990’s, she did the only thing she knew to do at the time: force feed him a plate of traditional reading and learning methods.
All she did was frustrate him!
By the time he was in the fifth grade, her son was exhausted, stressed out, and sick. He had daily asthma attacks, and was losing the spark of confidence that made him special. Lisa went on a “mother mission” to save him.
After A Year, Nathan Was An Honor Student!
Through education, significant research, and practical application, Lisa developed a program that took her son’s unique learning needs into consideration. It strengthened sensory and learning weaknesses and tied it all together seamlessly through brain integration. In addition, she created a reading program (formerly the Harp Reading System) that met his needs and kept him engaged.
Within a year, he was an honor student!
Lisa went on to use these same methods to open the first Harp Learning Institute (formerly Learning Link Technologies) in 2000. In 2022, Lisa made the Bravo! Reading Program available to all children struggling with dyslexia and reading challenges.
She additionally made the Harp Learning Institute expansion activities and programs available to all.
Bravo! Reading’s Mission Statement is: Every Child Can Read!
Lisa and her staff know and believe that every child can read…if given the right set of tools.
